Your Parad-Iso: Q&A with Proxy

This year, Covid-19 forced the world to press pause on all things social and go into isolation. Collectively, we had to say goodbye to festivals, clubs, tours and fun as we knew it as we were introduced to a new world of online, socially distanced & seated events.

We caught up with some of our artist alumni to see how the pandemic affected them and how they kept busy amid the disruption of their usual touring schedules. Welcome to our Q&A segment, Your Parad-iso.

Proxy, Your Paradise (2015)

YP: Hey Evgeny, what’s isolation been like in Russia?

Proxy: Isolation sucks for sure especially those 3-4 weeks when you had to make a special pass to leave the city. Felt like prison a bit. But it's a good time to refresh, remake everything you couldn't before, or to start something new.

YP: What’s the club scene usually like there?

Proxy: I guess we have more techno clubs atm, maybe not all of them remain alive, but Russia was always behind the scene in my opinion, it always felt like that. Hope this will be changed someday, and it will be a better choice.

YP: How has it changed since covid?

Proxy: I think many clubs just opened their doors at least for now before "2nd wave" and I don't really see many performing artists having gigs still, mosty resident DJs having fun now. I could see the difference in the scene between Russia and the rest of the world before covid and now I really hope this difference won't increase.

YP: Tell us about your Collusion EP!

Proxy: It was very interesting to work with absolutely different people, different minds. I think this EP was a great example of what I want to show listeners - that the music can be and should be different and it's a perfect time for quality over quantity.

YP: We loved your episode of Proxy Drives with AC Slater! If you could pick anyone in the world to have in your next episode, who would it be and why?

Proxy: Well, the original plan was to take it in every country I visit with all music fiends I have there. Not only big ones but new producers too to let viewers get to know them from a new side. And this could be very funny in Australia because I don't have much experience of driving on another side of the road :) I'll tell you about exact names right after all comes back to normal, hehe.

YP: Tell us, what did you think of Your Paradise?

Proxy: It's a paradise indeed! One of my favourite experiences ever. I've almost cried when leaving the islands and I always want to come back. Outstanding beautiful experience.

YP: Any stand-out moments or memories?

Proxy: I can remember the indescribable colour of the ocean around that floating bar Cloud9 and when someone told me a story about another Russian guy who landed his private jet on the island. I guess I was the 2nd Russian dude who ever visited Fiji. hahaha
