This year, Covid-19 forced the world to press pause on all things social and go into isolation. Collectively, we had to say goodbye to festivals, clubs, tours and fun as we knew it as we were introduced to a new world of online, socially distanced & seated events.
We caught up with some of our artist alumni to see how the pandemic affected them and how they kept busy amid the disruption of their usual touring schedules. Welcome to our Q&A segment, Your Parad-iso.
YP: Hey Franky! Tell us, what have you been up to during iso?
"I’ve been in the studio loads, and also going more out into nature. It's helped keep my head straight."
YP: We’ve been rinsing ‘Foley’ in the office! When can we expect the rest of the EP?
"The full EP with 4 tracks is actually out now! The vinyl is also just released and this includes a vinyl only track ‘Forgive’."
YP: What’s your process when writing an EP? Is there a personal meaning or story attached to each track, or is it more about writing melodies that make people want to groove?
"The music that’s created is usually a representation of how I feel in that moment. I don’t try to think too much besides that, just sit down and see what happens!"
YP: Tell us about ‘Listen to FLOW’
"FLOW is my event brand, we host events, have our own radio show and our own label LTF Records. We’ve been going for 5 years now and have now flourished into having our own FLOW Festival, stage hostings on Tomorrowland and club nights in the biggest clubs in Netherlands. FLOW is based on the FLOW state of mind, a state which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energised focus, full involvement and enjoyment in the process of the activity. We try to get our audience into that state."
YP: We saw you played at a seated party recently, how did that go?
"It was pretty fun actually - it’s great to listen to music on a good sound system with like minded people. I still feel a connection with the crowd and we all could use some music to de stress in these days. I hope we’re soon allowed to actually dance at your table again instead of being seated!"
YP: What was your favourite thing about Your Paradise?
"The location of Your Paradise is something unlike I’ve ever seen - enjoying this setting with so many fun people creates a unique atmosphere I’ve only experienced at Your Paradise."
YP: Was there another artists set you really enjoyed?
"I think Weiss killed it during his set on the beach stage, sunset, good music - really good vibes!"
YP: Select a top track from any of the other artists on the line up the year you played (2019).
"Weiss - Feel My Needs, the song still brings vibes!"
YP: Lastly, name one thing Covid has made you grateful for?
"Family and friends. I feel really supported by them, COVID times are an extra reminder of how important they are to me."
